Fender Covers for Boats

Dock Fender Covers in PVC and Polartec Fleece

Slammer Marine dock fender covers are the replaceable outer layer of every Slammer fender. When the cover fades, tears, or wears through after years of UV exposure and abrasion, a fresh cover restores the look and protection of the fender without touching the foam core or mounting track. PVC-coated marine fabric covers fit the Standard, Small, Corner, and Piling lines. Polartec heavy-loft fleece covers fit the Fleece line. Six standard colors. USA-made.

When the Cover Is the Part That Wears Out

The cover is the outermost layer of a Slammer dock fender and the first surface to see UV exposure, salt spray, abrasion from boat hulls, and the slow daily wear of a marine environment. In most installations, the cover is the component that gets replaced first, typically at the 5- to 7-year mark on PVC and the 2- to 3-season mark on Polartec fleece. The foam core underneath is usually still good. The mounting track is fine. Only the cover needs to change.

Buying just the cover instead of a whole new fender cuts replacement cost significantly. A standard 40-inch PVC cover runs $200 instead of the $270 for a complete new 40-inch Standard Fender. A new Polartec fleece cover runs a similar margin against a full Fleece Fender. The math works out the same way at 80-inch and 120-inch lengths.

Two Cover Materials

PVC-Coated Marine Fabric

The standard cover material across the Slammer line. 30-ounce PVC-coated marine-grade fabric. UV-resistant and abrasion-resistant. Holds color through years of sun exposure. The right answer for commercial installations, fuel docks, and anywhere the fender will see heavy traffic. PVC covers come in six standard colors: Marine Blue, Shark Gray, Ocean White, Orca Black, Fog Gray, and Navy Blue. Custom colors are available on larger orders.

Polartec Heavy-Loft Fleece

The premium cover material for the Fleece Fender line. Polartec heavy-loft fleece is a textile-grade fleece engineered for marine outdoor use. The fleece surface is much gentler against finished hulls than PVC, which makes it the right choice for owners of fiberglass boats with show-quality gelcoat, varnished wood hulls, and other finished surfaces. Fleece fades faster than PVC under direct sun, and Polartec carries a 1-year warranty on the fleece itself with most customers reporting 2 to 3 seasons of service. Custom colors are available on request.

Cover Length and Compatibility

Covers ship in 40-inch, 80-inch, and 120-inch standard lengths to match the underlying fender sizes. Custom lengths from 2 feet to 20 feet are available. A replacement cover must match the fender line it goes on: a Standard cover fits Standard and Standard Corner Fenders, a Small cover fits Small and Small Corner Fenders, a Fleece cover fits the Fleece line, and a Piling cover fits the Piling Fender. Mixing cover types between product lines is not supported.

Installing a Replacement Cover

To install a replacement cover, slide the existing fender assembly out of the polymer mounting track. The foam core slides out of the old cover. The new cover slides over the foam (the entry seam is at one end of the cover sleeve). The reassembled cover-and-foam unit slides back into the track. Most customers complete a single cover swap in 15 minutes. The track stays mounted to the dock throughout. Replacement covers are guaranteed to fit any Slammer Marine fender from any year of manufacture.
