Slammer Marine
Replacement dock fender foam cores for the entire Slammer Marine line. Closed-cell XLPE foam in two densities: 2-pound for the Standard, Small, and Fleece Fender lines, and 3-pound for the Piling Fender line. The foam core is the impact-absorbing center of every Slammer fender, and when it finally compresses out of shape after 8 to 10 years of service, it can be swapped without replacing the cover or track.
Closed-cell cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) foam is the impact-absorbing material in every Slammer dock fender. The closed-cell structure means the foam does not absorb water like an open-cell sponge would, which is critical for a marine product that lives outdoors year-round in salt or fresh water. When a vessel hits the fender, the closed-cell foam compresses elastically under the load and returns to its original shape after the load is removed. After thousands of impact cycles, the foam eventually reaches a compression set point where it no longer rebounds fully. That is when it gets replaced.
The foam is rated by density in pounds per cubic foot. Higher density means stiffer foam, higher load absorption, and longer service life under heavy use. Lower density means softer compression, gentler contact, and lighter weight. Slammer Marine matches foam density to the product line based on the impact loads each line sees.
The 2-pound XLPE foam is sized for the Standard, Small, and Fleece Fender lines (horizontal and corner versions). It absorbs impact from mid-size to large recreational vessels and from the routine docking contact those boats produce. Each foam core ships as a 40-inch section. Multiple sections can be combined for longer custom installations. Sold per 40-inch section at $60.
The Low Profile 2-pound XLPE foam is a thinner-profile version of the Standard foam, sized for installations where a slimmer fender thickness is needed in an existing polymer track. Same foam density and impact rating as the Standard, lower profile dimension. Sold per 40-inch section at $40.
The 3-pound XLPE foam is sized for the Piling Fender line. The denser foam absorbs the heavier vertical loads that pilings see when boats rest against them in wind or current. The 3-pound density is 50% stiffer than the 2-pound, which extends the service life under heavy load and prevents compression-through to the piling surface. Sold per 40-inch section at $60.
To replace a foam core, slide the cover-and-foam assembly out of the polymer mounting track on the dock. The cover unzips or unseals along its edge (method depends on the cover generation). The old foam slides out. The new foam slides in. The cover is resealed. The reassembled unit slides back into the track on the dock. Most customers complete a single foam swap in 20 to 30 minutes per 40-inch section. Foam cores ship in dock fender covers or alone if the existing cover is still in good shape.
