Dock Fenders Built to Stay Where Boats Hit

Slammer Marine dock fenders mount permanently to the dock instead of hanging from the boat. The foam-core, modular system absorbs impact every time a vessel comes alongside, with no ropes to tie, no fenders to reposition, and no air to refill. Three product families cover every dock geometry: Straight fenders for horizontal faces, Corner fenders for 90-degree intersections, and Piling fenders for vertical posts. All are made in the USA and backed by the fender-to-fender warranty.

Why Permanent Dock Fenders Outlast Hanging Fenders

Traditional hanging fenders, the inflatable cylinders tied to a boat’s cleats, are the default solution for one reason: they are cheap. They are also the single most common point of failure during docking. They slip out of position when a boat shifts in wind or chop. They deflate slowly until the day a hull finds the dock instead of the fender. They UV-fade and salt-corrode until the lines snap. And they require crew to deploy them at the right spot, at the right height, at the right time, every single time.

Permanent dock fenders solve every one of those failure modes by changing where the protection lives. Instead of hanging from the boat and depending on a knot and a guess, a Slammer Marine fender bolts to the dock and stays there. The foam core absorbs impact across a wide lateral face. The PVC-coated marine fabric cover resists UV, salt, and abrasion for years. The polymer mounting track and stainless steel hardware do not loosen or sag. When a boat comes in, the protection is already in place at exactly the right spot.

How the Slammer Modular System Works

Every Slammer fender is built from three replaceable parts. A closed-cell foam core handles the impact and will not deflate, waterlog, or compress out of shape over time. A UV and abrasion-resistant marine fabric cover surrounds the foam and takes the surface wear. A purpose-built polymer mounting track with stainless steel screws fixes the assembly to the dock. The track installs once. The cover and the foam can each be replaced individually if they wear out, which means a worn fender does not become landfill, it becomes a $60 foam swap or a cover refresh.

The modular design is what makes Slammer Marine fenders different from traditional D-fenders, foam bumpers, or carpet-wrapped boards. There is no single-piece product to throw away when one component fails. There is no specialized installer required. The dock owner buys a complete fender, slides the cover assembly into the track, drills the screws, and the dock is protected.

Three Product Lines for Every Dock Geometry

Straight Dock Fenders

The Straight line mounts horizontally along the face of a dock and is the right answer for most dock geometries. The Standard Fender carries a tear-shaped 9-inch by 6-inch profile sized for mid-size to large vessels and high-traffic environments like marina slips and fuel docks. The Small Fender uses a compact 5-inch by 3-inch profile for lighter watercraft, tighter dock layouts, and sailing schools. The Fleece Fender swaps the PVC cover for Polartec heavy-loft fleece for owners of finished hulls who want the gentlest possible contact surface. All three are sold in 40-inch, 80-inch, and 120-inch standard lengths, with custom lengths from 2 feet to 20 feet on request. Explore the straight dock fenders collection.

Corner Dock Fenders

Dock corners absorb the hardest hits during docking. A boat approaching at any angle other than parallel will find the corner before it finds the dock face. The Corner line wraps that 90-degree intersection so the corner is no longer the weakest point on the dock. Left, Right, and Inside Corner versions interlock with Straight Fender sections to create seamless perimeter protection. Custom angles are available for non-standard dock geometries. Piling Fenders

For docks with vertical pilings, posts, or fixed structures, the Piling Fender mounts directly to the piling itself. The 5-inch by 3.5-inch profile is slightly thicker than the Small Fender for extra cushion, and the higher density 3-pound XLPE foam core absorbs the heavier loads that pilings see when vessels rest against them. The same modular three-part construction applies, so worn covers and foam can be replaced without buying a new piling fender. See the full piling fenders lineup.

Built for Marinas, Built for Backyard Docks

Slammer Marine fenders started on commercial fuel docks at marinas like Sail Newport, Cape Ann Marina, and Brown & Howard Marina, where the cost of one fiberglass repair pays for the entire fender system several times over. The same product is now installed at Safe Harbor marinas across the United States and on private residential docks from Lake Conroe to the Caribbean. The product does not change between the commercial and residential customer; only the warranty period does. Marinas get 2-year commercial coverage. Private dock owners get 4-year coverage. Both are backed by the same no-hassle fender-to-fender repair or replacement policy.

Materials, Colors, and Lengths

All Slammer dock fenders use the same core materials. The foam is closed-cell XLPE, sourced and laminated in the USA. The cover fabric is 30-ounce PVC-coated marine fabric (or Polartec fleece on the Fleece line). The mounting track is a polymer extrusion designed specifically for this system, with pre-drilled, countersunk holes for stainless steel deck screws. Standard colors are Marine Blue, Shark Gray, Ocean White, Orca Black, Fog Gray, and Navy Blue. Custom colors are available on request for larger orders. All fenders ship in 40-inch, 80-inch, and 120-inch standard lengths, with made-to-order lengths from 2 feet to 20 feet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Slammer dock fender systems are warrantied for 4 years in private use and 2 years in commercial use, but field performance routinely exceeds that. Several installations from 2011 and 2012 are still in service. The polymer track has a lifetime expectancy. The foam core typically lasts 8 to 10 years under normal use. The PVC cover is the wear part, usually replaced after 5 to 7 years depending on UV exposure and traffic. Each component is individually replaceable, so a worn cover does not require buying a new fender.

Yes. The polymer mounting track installs identically on floating docks and fixed docks. Slammer fenders are installed on wood, composite, aluminum, and concrete dock faces, both floating and fixed. The fender does not interfere with the floating dock’s freeboard movement because the fender moves with the dock.

Yes. Owners in northern climates routinely remove the fenders for winter storage by sliding the cover-and-foam assembly out of the polymer track. The track stays mounted to the dock. The covers and foam store flat in a garage or shed. Reinstallation in spring takes minutes per fender.

Boat fenders hang from a boat’s cleats or rails using lines and protect the boat by absorbing impact between the hull and the dock. Dock fenders mount permanently to the dock and protect both the boat and the dock from the opposite direction. Boat fenders require deployment every time the boat docks. Dock fenders are always in position. For a more detailed comparison, see the boat fenders blog category.

The polymer mounting track screws to the dock face with stainless steel deck screws (included). The cover-and-foam assembly slides into the track. Most 40-inch sections take under 10 minutes to install with basic tools, a drill, a level, and a hand saw if a custom length is needed. Full installation guidance is in the dock fender installation guide.
